Midea's budget brand for plug-in portable cooling: the cheapest credible way into air conditioning from the world's largest AC maker. Here is what you get, what it costs to run, and the trade-offs to accept first.
Midea's budget badge, and an honest one if you know the limits
Is Comfee a good brand? For the money, yes, with clear limits. Comfee is a consumer brand of Midea Group, one of the world's largest air conditioning manufacturers, and in the UK it means one thing: budget single-hose portable units in 7,000, 9,000 and 12,000 BTU sizes, sold mainly through Amazon, B&Q and Comfee's own web shop. You get real Midea engineering, a 3-year warranty on the core models, low-GWP R290 refrigerant and, on the current app-control generation, Wi-Fi and voice control at a price where rivals are remote-only. List prices run £340 to £500, and Amazon promotions regularly cut that hard: deals between £110 and £190 appeared through 2025.
The trade-offs are the ones every budget single-hose portable carries, and Comfee does not escape them. These units are noisy on full power (listings quote up to 64 dB(A), and an independent test measured 51 to 63 dB(A)), so light sleepers should plan around the quieter settings. Efficiency is modest: the 9,000 BTU model draws about 1,000 W for 2.6 kW of cooling, which works out at roughly 26p an hour at the current 26.11p per kWh electricity price cap rate, and the single hose pulls some warm air back into the room while it runs. They cool, dehumidify and fan only; no Comfee portable heats. If you want a plug-in unit that heats too, step up to the Midea PortaSplit instead.
Two practical warnings. First, stock evaporates in hot spells: in the August 2026 heat, every Comfee portable was out of stock or unavailable across Amazon, comfee-uk.com and B&Q, so buy before the forecast turns. Second, the model naming is a mess (CPPA, MPPHA, MPPFA, "Breezy Cool") and near-identical hardware wears both Comfee and Midea badges, so compare by capacity and features, not by code. Owner feedback is solid rather than glowing: 4.0 and 3.7 stars on the current Amazon listings, and 3.4 on Trustpilot for the brand's UK shop, where the complaints are mostly about after-sales rather than the units themselves.
Prices, stock and the electricity rate are correct as of August 2026. The energy price cap changes quarterly, so check current rates before budgeting.
