Smart budget portables from a heating specialist
Devola is a British heating and cooling brand based in Walsall, part of the Love Shopping Direct group, which started trading online in 2008. It is best known for its panel heaters and dehumidifiers, but it also sells a range of single-hose portable air conditioners, direct from its own website, through its sister retailer Air Con Centre and on Amazon.
The air conditioners come in two families. The Master range covers 7,000, 9,000 and 10,000 BTU units, including the DVAC10CHW with a heat mode, and the newer Compact range runs from a 5,000 BTU box-room unit up to 9,000 BTU, again with a heating version. The current Wi-Fi models add app and voice control and come with two window kits, one of them for sash windows, at prices of roughly £260 to £480 before sales. They cool well for the money, but they are loud, reliability is uneven, and stock tends to vanish outside the summer, so buy in a sale and register the warranty straight away.
