Comfee portable air conditioners: Midea's value sub-brand

Comfee is Midea Group's value sub-brand, so a Comfee portable is Midea-group hardware wearing a cheaper badge. It is a range of single-hose portable monoblocs: everything sits in one wheeled indoor box, and warm air is exhausted through a supplied window hose. There is no outdoor unit, which is the key difference from the Midea PortaSplit.

The UK line comes in three cooling sizes, 7,000, 9,000 and 12,000 BTU, all on very low-GWP R290 refrigerant, with a 3-year warranty that is longer than many budget rivals. They cool, dehumidify and run as a fan only; they do not heat. Entry Eco models are remote and manual, while Premium models add Wi-Fi, app and voice control.

Because Comfee and Midea are the same group, the same UK web shop lists near-identical portables under both names. A model badged Comfee, such as the MPPHA-C, can sit next to a near-twin badged Midea, such as the MPPH-09E. It is easy to think you are comparing two brands when you are really comparing two labels on one product family.

The practical way to shop is by capacity and tier, not by badge. Comfee splits into Eco models, which are remote and manual only, and Premium Wi-Fi models, which add app and voice control. Pick the size for your room and the tier for the features you want, and do not pay extra for a name that is effectively the same unit. Comfee markets itself as Germany's number one selling residential air conditioning brand, which is a manufacturer claim rather than an independently verified fact.

Direct from Comfee, the range runs from about £340 for the 7,000 BTU model to about £500 for the 12,000 BTU Premium Wi-Fi model, with the 9,000 BTU models in between. That is normal single-hose portable money, and well below the Midea PortaSplit at roughly £900 to £1,200. A 9,000 BTU single-hose portable typically draws around 1 kW when cooling. At an illustrative 27p per kWh, running it for eight hours a day works out at roughly £2.16 a day. Single-hose portables are inherently less efficient than a split, because the exhaust hose lowers room pressure and draws warm air back in, so real costs can run higher on hot days.
