Mitsubishi Heavy Industries is one of Japan's oldest engineering groups, with roots going back to 1884 in shipbuilding and today spanning aerospace, power systems and machinery. Its air conditioning arm is a separate business from Mitsubishi Electric, and the two are completely different companies despite the shared name. That distinction matters when you compare quotes, because installers often shorten both to just Mitsubishi.

In UK homes, MHI has built its reputation as the value pick among the Japanese brands. The wall-mounted SRK range runs quietly and reliably on lower-impact R32 refrigerant, and is typically quoted below Daikin and Mitsubishi Electric for comparable engineering. It comes in three tiers, from the entry Standard up to the feature-rich Diamond, which reaches the top A+++ efficiency rating on smaller sizes and runs as quietly as around 19 dB(A). There are trade-offs. In the UK, MHI is distributed to the trade rather than marketed heavily to homeowners, so it has a lower public profile, fewer designer finishes than the premium names and a smaller accredited installer network. It may not appear in every quote. The standard warranty is a solid five years on parts, but it is conditional on installation and servicing by a qualified installer under a service agreement, and it is held by the installer rather than by you. Where an installer does offer MHI, it usually signals they rate it on engineering rather than marketing.
