Powrmatic Vision air conditioning
A Somerset heating and ventilation firm whose through-the-wall Vision units give a room fixed air con with no outdoor unit, at a premium price.
Air con through the wall, with nothing outside
Powrmatic is a UK heating and ventilation company based in Ilminster, Somerset, and most of its catalogue is commercial kit: gas and electric heaters, destratification fans and smoke ventilators. Its one line of air conditioning that suits a home is the Vision range of through-the-wall monoblocs, which put the whole system, compressor included, inside a slim indoor cabinet and breathe through two small grilles in the external wall. With nothing hung on the outside of the building, a Vision is one of the few ways to get fixed air conditioning without an outdoor unit, which is why the range turns up in flats, studio apartments, care homes and garden rooms.
Powrmatic's 2026 range runs from the Vision 2.3 (1.73 kW nominal cooling, 2.35 kW maximum, on low-impact R290 refrigerant) through the Vision 3.1 and 3.6 to a 4.1 kW model, with a 3.1 that adds an electric backup heater and a floor-standing VertiCool alongside. Retailers still list some of them under older names such as Vision Compact 2.3 DW and Vision Maxi 3.6 DW, so match the kW figure rather than the label when you shop. Every model heats as well as cools, down to -15°C outside, comes with Wi-Fi control and plugs into a 13 A socket, and because the refrigerant circuit is sealed at the factory there is no need for an F-Gas engineer. The real work is two core-drilled holes in an external wall: 162 mm on the 2.3 and 3.1, and 202 mm on the larger models.
The honest picture is a capable but expensive niche product. Unit-only prices run from about £1,950 for the compact 2.3 to around £2,750 for the 3.6 (prices correct as of October 2026), which is more than a fitted budget split, and a seasonal efficiency of SEER 4.1 to 4.6 means it costs more to run than a split doing the same job. The compressor also sits in the room with you, so it is noticeably louder when cooling or heating than on fan alone. It has little track record in UK homes outside commercial and housing projects, so we have not yet given a specific Vision model a full review; weigh it against the Olimpia Splendid Unico EVO, the no-outdoor-unit monobloc we do review, and if your building allows a condenser on the wall, a split will serve you better for less.
Strengths and watch-outs
Strengths
- ✓Fixed air conditioning with no outdoor unit, just two small grilles in the external wall
- ✓Heats as well as cools, down to -15°C outside, with an electric backup heater version for colder rooms
- ✓No F-Gas engineer needed: a sealed circuit, a 13 A plug and usually a day to fit
- ✓Smaller 162 mm wall holes on the 2.3 and 3.1 models, plus Wi-Fi and wall controller options
Watch-outs
- !Expensive: roughly £1,950 to £2,750 for the unit alone, before any fitting
- !Less efficient than a split (SEER 4.1 to 4.6), so dearer to run for the same cooling
- !The compressor is indoors: 27 dB(A) at minimum, but 39 to 46 dB(A) at nominal output depending on size
- !Patchy UK stock and a confusing mix of old and new model names across retailers
