Daikin Perfera vs Sensira: which should you buy?

Daikin's efficiency flagship against its cheapest wall split. The Perfera costs about £250 to £400 more fitted and pays that back if the room is used daily or heated; for a guest room cooled a few weeks a year, the Sensira does the job for less.

Our verdict

Get the Perfera for any room you use every day or heat in winter; it pays back its £250 to £400 premium in roughly five to eight years. Get the Sensira for an occasional-use room that mainly needs summer cooling.

On Daikin Sensira vs Perfera, the Perfera is the one to buy for any room you use every day or plan to heat in winter. It's A+++ for cooling and heating on the 2.5 and 3.5 kW sizes, against the Sensira's A++ and A+, and that efficiency saves around £51 a year in a room that gets used year-round. With a like-for-like price gap of about £250 to £400, it earns its keep in roughly five to eight years.

For a guest room or spare bedroom that only needs cooling a few weeks a year, the Sensira makes more sense. It shares the same app, the same warranty route, and almost the same quietness, and you'll never claw back the Perfera's premium on that kind of use. Before you settle on the Sensira on price, though, get a quote for the mid-range Comfora too, because at some installers it costs less.

Efficiency and running costs

This is the big one. SEER and SCOP are seasonal efficiency scores for cooling and heating, so a higher number means more cooling or warmth for each unit of electricity. The current Perfera (the FTXM-A, launched in March 2024 as "Perfera All Seasons") sits right at the top of Daikin's range, while the Sensira is A++ for cooling and A+ for heating. If you've seen the Perfera quoted at SEER 8.65 and SCOP 5.10, that's the previous FTXM-R generation (the 3.5 kW FTXM35R with an RXM35R9 outdoor), and it understates the gap.

Here's a 3.5 kW unit on our standard running-cost method. Cooling is the unit's size x 350 hours (the EU energy label's standard cooling season) ÷ SEER, and heating is 3,000 kWh of heat a year (a moderately used room through a UK winter, the same at 2.5 and 3.5 kW) ÷ SCOP, all at the Ofgem price cap rate of 26.32p/kWh for 1 October to 31 December 2026, with no VAT on domestic electricity from 1 October 2026 to 31 March 2027.

3.5 kW, at 26.32p/kWh Perfera Sensira
Cooling (3.5 x 350 ÷ SEER) 3.5 x 350 ÷ 9.25 = 132 kWh = £34.74 3.5 x 350 ÷ 6.50 = 188 kWh = £49.48
3,000 kWh of heat 3,000 ÷ 5.20 = 577 kWh = £151.87 3,000 ÷ 4.20 = 714 kWh = £187.92
Total for the year £186.61 £237.41

How we work out running costs: every unit is costed on the same basis, size x 350 hours of cooling ÷ SEER plus 3,000 kWh of heat ÷ SCOP, at the Ofgem cap rate. It's a fair like-for-like comparison, not a forecast of your bill. Correct as of October 2026.

That's about £51 a year (£50.80) in the Perfera's favour, or roughly £510 over ten years. Put another way, each unit of heat costs about 5.1p from the Perfera and 6.3p from the Sensira. Against a £250 to £400 price gap, the Perfera pays for itself in about five to eight years if you heat with it.

Cooling only, the sums change completely. The saving is about £15 a year at 3.5 kW and £11.32 a year at 2.5 kW (£24.21 against £35.53), so in an occasional-use room the premium never comes back.

One more thing to know: the Sensira's "3.5 kW" model is actually 3.3 kW for cooling and 3.5 kW for heating, against 3.5 and 4.0 kW for the Perfera. If your room is close to the limit, an installer may suggest going up a size on the Sensira, which narrows the price gap. Our guide to what size air conditioning you need explains how sizing works.

The gap stays wide on bigger units too. At 5.0 kW the Perfera is SEER 7.80 and SCOP 4.80 against the Sensira's 6.50 and 4.10. The 6.0 and 7.1 kW Perferas still use Daikin's older RXM-R outdoor unit, but even so the 7.1 kW is A++ / A+ where the Sensira drops to A ratings for both cooling and heating.

Real savings depend on how many hours you run the unit. More in are air conditioners expensive to run.

Noise

On the small sizes there's almost nothing in it. The Perfera's quietest setting is 19 dB(A) and the Sensira's 20 dB(A) on the 2.0 to 3.5 kW models, and a single decibel is hard to hear. At full fan the Sensira is slightly quieter (40 against 41 dB(A) at 2.5 kW, 43 against 45 at 3.5 kW), and the outdoor units are level at 46 dB(A) on the 2.5 kW size.

The Perfera pulls ahead on the 5.0 kW and bigger units, where its quietest setting is 2 to 4 dB(A) lower: 27 against 31 dB(A) at 5.0 kW, for example. For a bedroom, either small unit is fine; see our bedroom air conditioning guide for more on what those numbers sound like at night.

Features and air quality

The Sensira keeps things simple. You get a dust-removing filter, five fan speeds, up-and-down auto swing, and the Onecta app. Since February 2025 the F generation has Wi-Fi at no extra cost: built in on the smaller sizes, with a Wi-Fi adaptor included on the 6.0 and 7.1 kW. Older E-generation stock needed an optional adaptor, so check which generation your quote is for. Daikin UK also lists the 4.2 and 7.1 kW Sensira as archived, so those two sizes may be harder to find.

The Perfera adds quite a lot on top:

  • Flash Streamer air purification, plus a silver allergen filter and a titanium apatite deodorising filter

  • A 2-area motion sensor that steers air away from people and switches to an energy-saving mode when the room is empty

  • 3D airflow, which swings side to side as well as up and down, useful in wide or L-shaped rooms

  • Heat boost, to warm a cold room up faster

It also heats down to -21°C outside on the 2.5 to 4.2 kW sizes, against -15°C for the Sensira (the 5.0 kW Perfera is a -15°C unit too), and it can run on a multi-split with up to five indoor units. If heating is a big part of the plan, our heating with air conditioning guide is worth a read.

Size and looks

Both are plain white wall units. The Sensira's indoor unit is smaller and lighter (770 mm wide, 225 mm deep, 8 to 8.5 kg) than the Perfera's (804 mm wide, 252 mm deep, 11.5 kg). Outside, the gap is bigger: the Sensira's outdoor unit is 740 mm wide and 24 kg against the Perfera's 923 mm and 36 kg, which can matter on a balcony or a high wall bracket.

Price

The cleanest like-for-like comparison is Costco, which sells installed packages of both:

Size Perfera Sensira Gap
2.5 kW £2,099.99 £1,849.99 £250
3.5 kW £2,299.99 £1,899.99 £400

Costco promotions swing this a lot. The 3.5 kW Sensira package has been seen on deal at £1,619.99, which widened the gap to £680. Costco's Sensira package includes a virtual survey, F-Gas installation, up to 15 m of pipe and cable, and extra refrigerant if needed, but you'll need a 16 A electrical supply in place first (20 A for the 7.1 kW), fitted by an electrician. Costco's installed packages were showing as out of stock online in mid-October, which looks seasonal.

Installers can tell a different story. AAC Air Conditioning doesn't sell the Sensira, but it fits a 3.5 kW Perfera for £2,034 on a standard install, only £134 more than Costco's full-price 3.5 kW Sensira. As a working range, budget about £1,600 to £1,900 for a 2.5 to 3.5 kW Sensira supplied and fitted, and £1,900 to £2,300 for a Perfera.

Prices correct as of October 2026. Installed package prices and promotions change often, so compare current quotes.

Where does the Comfora fit?

The Comfora sits between these two, and it's easy to overlook.

3.5 kW model SEER / SCOP What you get Typical fitted price
Sensira FTXF-F 6.50 / 4.20 (A++ / A+) Dust filter, up-and-down swing only, Wi-Fi £1,600 to £1,900
Comfora FTXP-N 7.20 / 4.64 (A++ / A++) Adds 3D airflow, allergen and deodorising filters £1,700 to £1,900
Perfera FTXM-A 9.25 / 5.20 (A+++ / A+++) Adds Flash Streamer, motion sensor, heat boost £1,900 to £2,300

Prices correct as of October 2026.

Against the Sensira, a 3.5 kW Comfora runs about £5 a year cheaper for cooling and £18 cheaper per 3,000 kWh of heat on our standard method at the October 2026 cap rate (£170.29 against £187.92), and it adds 3D airflow and better filters. AAC fits one for £1,825, which is below Costco's full price for a 3.5 kW Sensira package. So if the Sensira appeals because it's the cheapest, price a Comfora as well. Our Daikin Perfera vs Comfora comparison covers the step from the Comfora up to the Perfera, and the Comfora product page has the full specs.

Which should you buy?

It comes down to how hard the unit will work. In a living room, main bedroom, or home office used most days, and especially one you'll heat in winter, the Perfera's efficiency adds up to real money, and it brings cleaner air, smarter airflow, and a motion sensor along with it. On a large room needing 6.0 or 7.1 kW, the Perfera stays ahead on efficiency, and the Sensira's biggest unit drops to A ratings.

The Sensira is the sensible buy for a room that sits empty most of the year: a guest room, or a home office or garden room you only cool in a heatwave. You get the same Daikin app, near-identical quietness, and smaller units, for less. Just check the Comfora price before you sign.

As for reviews, neither model has meaningful owner feedback in UK sources, which is normal for fitted splits. Installers agree on the positioning (Sensira for occasional-use rooms, Perfera for hard-working ones), but most of their commentary predates the current Perfera, so the real efficiency gap is bigger than they tend to suggest. Both rely on Daikin's general reputation, covered on our Daikin brand page and Perfera range page.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the Daikin Sensira and Perfera? +

Mainly efficiency, air quality, and airflow. On the 2.5 and 3.5 kW sizes the Perfera reaches SEER 9.25 to 9.47 and SCOP 5.20 (A+++ / A+++) against the Sensira's 6.50 and 4.20 (A++ / A+). The Perfera also adds Flash Streamer, an allergen filter, a motion sensor, and 3D airflow. Both have Onecta Wi-Fi and use R32.

Is the Perfera worth the extra over the Sensira? +

If it heats or runs daily, usually yes. It's about £51 a year cheaper to run with moderate heating at the October 2026 cap rate of 26.32p/kWh, against a like-for-like price gap of about £250 to £400. For occasional cooling only, no.

Which is quieter? +

They're nearly level. The Perfera's small sizes go down to 19 dB(A) and the Sensira's to 20 dB(A). On 5.0 kW and above, the Perfera's quietest setting is 2 to 4 dB(A) lower.

Does the Sensira have Wi-Fi? +

Yes. The current F generation works with the Onecta app, with Wi-Fi built in on the smaller sizes and a Wi-Fi adaptor included with the 6.0 and 7.1 kW. Older E-generation stock needed an optional adaptor, so check which generation a quote is for.

Can the Sensira heat my home in winter? +

Yes, down to -15°C outside, with SCOP 4.20 on the small sizes. The Perfera's 2.5 to 4.2 kW models work down to -21°C, and each unit of heat costs about 20% less to produce.

Is a 3.5 kW Sensira the same size as a 3.5 kW Perfera? +

Not quite. The Sensira "3.5 kW" is 3.3 kW nominal cooling and 3.5 kW heating, while the Perfera is 3.5 kW cooling and 4.0 kW heating.

How much does each cost fitted? +

Costco lists installed Sensira packages at £1,849.99 (2.5 kW) and £1,899.99 (3.5 kW), and the Perfera at £2,099.99 and £2,299.99. One installer fits a 3.5 kW Perfera from £2,034. Prices correct as of October 2026, when Costco's installed packages were showing as out of stock online.

Do they have the same warranty? +

Yes. Daikin's air con warranty depends on who fits it rather than which model: up to 7 years through a Daikin D1 or D1+ partner, or up to 5 years through a Daikin Certified Installer, otherwise a standard 1 or 3 years depending on the product. Your installer arranges it, so ask for the terms and any servicing conditions in writing on your quote.

Do they qualify for the £2,500 air-to-air grant? +

Both heat, so both can qualify on type. It has to be a home in England or Wales, the unit has to replace existing fossil fuel or electric heating such as gas, oil, LPG, storage or panel heaters (not an existing heat pump or other low carbon system), and an MCS-certified installer has to fit it. See our air-to-air heat pump grant guide for the details.
