Daikin Emura vs Stylish: which should you buy?

The Emura and Stylish have identical efficiency and noise at every size, but the Emura heats down to -21°C outside against the Stylish's -15°C. The Stylish is slimmer, comes in more finishes, and costs around £60 to £100 less fitted.

Our verdict

Same efficiency and noise, so for most rooms it comes down to looks and price, where the slimmer, cheaper Stylish wins. The Emura's real extra is winter heating down to -21°C outside, against the Stylish's -15°C.

In the Daikin Emura vs Stylish decision, performance barely comes into it. On Daikin's own UK data the two have identical efficiency, energy labels, and noise at every size from 2.0 to 5.0 kW. The one real difference is winter heating: the Emura keeps going down to -21°C outside, where the Stylish is rated to -15°C. Beyond that, you're choosing a shape, a finish, and a price.

On that basis the Stylish wins for most rooms. It's slimmer, narrower, comes in eight finishes against three, and costs around £60 to £100 less supplied and fitted. The Emura is the one to pick if you specifically like its larger, sculpted front, or if it's going to be a main source of heat through cold snaps.

Performance: nearly the same machine inside

You'll often read that the Stylish is a touch more efficient. It isn't. Size for size, the SEER and SCOP figures match to two decimal places: 8.74 and 5.15 at 2.5 kW, 8.73 and 5.15 at 3.5 kW, both A+++ for cooling and heating up to 3.5 kW and A++ on the 4.2 and 5.0 kW models.

Noise matches too. Indoors, both run from 19 dB(A) on silent up to 41 dB(A) at high fan on the 3.5 kW, and from 24 to 46 dB(A) on the 5.0 kW. The outdoor units are just as close, at 46, 49, and 48 dB(A) for the 2.5, 3.5, and 5.0 kW sizes. Daikin markets the Stylish as Quiet Mark certified; we found no such claim for the Emura, though the published figures are the same.

The feature lists line up as well. Both have Flash Streamer air purification, an intelligent thermal sensor, Coanda-effect airflow that runs air along the ceiling to reduce draughts, built-in Wi-Fi for the Onecta app, and support for multi-split systems with up to five indoor units. Daikin describes the Stylish's sensor as a 64-area grid and doesn't give a grid size for the Emura's.

Where they part company is the outdoor unit's heating range. Daikin rates the Emura's outdoor units to keep heating down to -21°C, at every size, while the Stylish's are rated to -15°C. A UK winter rarely gets that cold, so for cooling and mild-weather heating it makes no difference. If the unit is going to be the main heat in a cold room, or you live somewhere that sees proper frosts, it's a genuine point in the Emura's favour.

Running costs are identical too. We cost every unit on our standard running-cost method: cooling is the unit's size in kW x 350 hours (the EU energy label's standard cooling season) ÷ SEER, and heating is 3,000 kWh of heat a year (a moderately used room through a UK winter, the same at 2.5 and 3.5 kW) ÷ SCOP, at the Ofgem price cap rate of 26.32p/kWh for 1 October to 31 December 2026, with no VAT on domestic electricity.

Emura or Stylish Cooling Heating Year
2.5 kW 2.5 x 350 ÷ 8.74 = 100 kWh, £26.32 3,000 ÷ 5.15 = 583 kWh, £153.45 £179.77
3.5 kW 3.5 x 350 ÷ 8.73 = 140 kWh, £36.85 3,000 ÷ 5.15 = 583 kWh, £153.45 £190.29

How we work out running costs: every unit is costed on the same basis, size x 350 hours of cooling ÷ SEER plus 3,000 kWh of heat ÷ SCOP, at the Ofgem cap rate. It's a fair like-for-like comparison, not a forecast of your bill. Correct as of October 2026; the cap changes quarterly, so check current rates before budgeting.

So it's £179.77 a year at 2.5 kW and £190.29 at 3.5 kW, whichever one you pick.

Size on the wall

This is the first real difference. The Emura measures 305 x 900 x 212 mm and the Stylish 295 x 798 x 189 mm. So the Emura is 102 mm wider, 23 mm deeper, and 10 mm taller. Both weigh 12 kg.

A hundred millimetres doesn't sound like much until you're trying to fit a unit into a chimney breast alcove or centre it above a bed with clearances either side. For a tight wall, the Stylish is the easier fit. On a big, open wall the Emura's size is part of the point.

If you're still working out what capacity your room needs, start with our guide to what size air conditioning you need. Neither unit goes above 5.0 kW, so for a bigger space the Daikin Perfera, which runs up to 7.1 kW, is the one to look at.

Looks and finishes

The Emura comes in white, silver, or black. It's Daikin's long-running designer unit (the current FTXJ-A is the third generation, which is why you'll see it called the Emura 3), with a larger, sculpted front that's meant to be noticed.

The Stylish comes in the same three colours plus five textured fronts that Daikin added in 2026: light wood, oak (dark wood), grey fabric, colourful fabric, and dark brown leather. They're imitation finishes rather than real wood, fabric, or leather. One London installer notes that the textured fronts can carry longer lead times, and that the outdoor unit stays white whatever you choose inside.

Which one looks better is personal. If you want the unit to blend in, the Stylish's slimmer body and wider choice of finishes give you more ways to do that. If you want it to stand out, the Emura does that by design.

Price

The Emura costs £59 to £100 more at 2.5 kW and £70 to £100 more at 3.5 kW, like for like.

Supplied and fitted Emura 2.5 kW Stylish 2.5 kW Emura 3.5 kW Stylish 3.5 kW
AAC Air Conditioning £2,205 £2,146 £2,396 £2,326
Costco UK £2,499.99 (white) £2,399.99 (white) £2,699.99 (white), £2,799.99 (silver) £2,599.99 (white), £2,699.99 (silver)

Prices correct as of October 2026. AAC prices assume a 3 to 5 m pipe run and include white, black, or silver at the same price. Costco charges £100 more for silver on both models, and its installed packages were showing as out of stock online in mid-October.

It isn't a huge gap on a £2,000-plus install, so if you prefer the Emura's look, the money probably shouldn't stop you. Just don't pay it expecting better efficiency; the only performance extra is the colder heating limit. Our guide to how much air conditioning costs covers what else moves a quote.

Warranty

Identical. Daikin UK offers up to 7 years on air conditioning equipment fitted by a D1 or D1+ partner, and up to 5 years through a Certified Installer. Otherwise it's a standard 1 or 3 years, depending on the product. Your installer arranges the cover, so get the length and any servicing conditions in writing on your quote.

Which should you buy?

For most design-conscious buyers, the Stylish. You get the same efficiency and noise for less money, it takes up less wall, and the textured finishes give you options the Emura doesn't have. It's also the slightly more flexible pick for a multi-split, since it has a 1.5 kW indoor unit for a small room.

The Emura is for people who've seen it and simply prefer it. That's a perfectly good reason; it's a distinctive unit with a long design history. It also earns its premium if you're relying on it for heating in a cold spot, since it keeps working down to -21°C outside against the Stylish's -15°C. Just make sure the wall has room for it, and that you're paying the extra for the shape and the heating range rather than any imagined efficiency gain.

If you're open to a plain white unit, it's worth reading our Daikin Perfera vs Stylish comparison too: the Perfera is more efficient and cheaper than both. For the budget end of the Daikin range, see Perfera vs Comfora. For a bedroom install, our bedroom air conditioning guide covers placement and noise, and the Daikin brand page has the whole line-up.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Emura or the Stylish more efficient? +

Neither. Daikin's UK datasheets give identical SEER, SCOP, and energy labels at every size, so running costs are the same.

Which is quieter, the Emura or the Stylish? +

They're the same on paper: 19 dB(A) in silent mode on the 2.0 to 3.5 kW sizes, rising to 24 dB(A) on the 5.0 kW, with matching high-fan figures. Only the Stylish carries a Quiet Mark claim from Daikin.

How much more does the Emura cost? +

About £60 to £100 more supplied and fitted at 2.5 and 3.5 kW, based on AAC and Costco prices in October 2026.

How big is each indoor unit? +

The Emura is 305 x 900 x 212 mm and the Stylish 295 x 798 x 189 mm. Both weigh 12 kg.

What colours do they come in? +

The Emura comes in white, silver, and black at every size, the 4.2 kW included. The Stylish comes in those three plus light wood, oak wood, grey fabric, colourful fabric, and dark brown leather looks.

Which is better for heating in winter? +

The Emura. Efficiency is the same, but its outdoor units are rated to keep heating down to -21°C outside, against -15°C for the Stylish. That only matters on the coldest nights, but it's the one performance difference between them.

What is the Daikin Emura 3? +

It's the third generation of the Emura design, model FTXJ-A. The 3 refers to the generation, not a 3 kW size.

Can they run on a multi-split? +

Yes. Both connect to Daikin multi-split outdoor units serving up to five rooms. The Stylish also has a 1.5 kW indoor unit for multi-split use only.

Is there a bigger size than 5.0 kW? +

No, both stop at 5.0 kW cooling (5.8 kW heating). For larger rooms, look at the Daikin Perfera, which goes up to 7.1 kW.
